Patrick Kitzman has been a faculty member in the Division of Physical Therapy at the University of Kentucky since early 2000.  He received a MS from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Ohio State University in 1994.  He then conducted a 2-year Postdoctoral fellowship in molecular neurobiology at the University of Kentucky. In 1999 Dr. Kitzman received a BS and MS in Physical Therapy from the University of Kentucky. Since 2000, he has been a faculty member in the Division of Physical Therapy and the Rehabilitation Sciences doctoral Program at the University of KY where he currently holds the position of Associate Professor. He was named the McDougal Endowed Professor in PT in 2010. Dr. Kitzman has clinical experience with in-patient rehabilitation, outpatient, and home health.  Dr. Kitzman has been involved with both basic science research as well as community-based research. Since late 2008 he has worked with multiple State and community partners to develop the Kentucky Appalachian Rural Rehabilitation Network (KARRN) and currently serves as its Director.  The mission of KARRN is focused on combining community-based research, education, and service to reduce healthcare disparities for individuals with neurological conditions (e.g. spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and stroke) living in the rural communities of Kentucky.  Since 2013 he has been involved in the development of the Appalachian Translational Research Network (ATRN) and in March 2015 was elected to be the overall Director of the ATRN.
